A dessert made up of simple ingredients, Frutta Martorana is made with royal paste made up of almonds, sugar and candied fruit. A very sweet flavor reminiscent of Sicily in the 1100s when the Benedictine nuns made these sweets for the first time in the convent of Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio wanted by the noblewoman Elisa Martorana. Legend has it that the nuns in the winter season, on the occasion of an important visit to the interior of the monastery, adorned the bare trees with these colorful fruits.
